Hey there!

Last week, our school had a visitor who talked about his friend Abe. But the thing is, Abe was a Holocaust survivor! It was very interesting listening to his presentation. It was also shocking how people actually did all of that. He also told us this story: Abe was a chicken farmer. Back then, chicken was a very expensive food to eat. Beef and lamb were very cheap. Abe had an idea to strap a chicken on his leg underneath his pants and take it home! When he was running home, a soldier stopped him and asked what was in his pants. Abe couldn’t lie, or else he would get shot, so he told him. The soldier didn’t care and just walked away. It is crazy how some of the soldiers spared them, even though they made mistakes or stole chickens! We also heard many other stories about Abe going to concentration camps and how he was moved from place to place. It is truly horrible to hear what they did to Abe and many other people. It was an honor to be able to hear Mr. Goldberg’s story about Abe.

Thank you all for reading!

Tree Planting!!

Baby tree

Howdy! Last month, the entire 6th grade went down to Hillside Park to plant trees. We did this to help water purity and to help cool down with their shade. When we got to Hillside Park, it was pretty cloudy outside. Luckily, I brought a raincoat that would keep me dry. (Or so I thought.) We learned how to plant the trees in a couple of easy steps. My group and I started our work, and then disaster struck. It started POURING. My thought to be a raincoat was ACTUALLY just a regular jacket, and I started getting soaked! In all, it was a very fun experience to do with my friends. Hillside Park High School was established in 1922. What is cool about this school is that it was the first high school in Durham to accept black students. Hillside Park High School did not have a 12th grade until 1939. When Hillside Park High closed, it was abandoned and forgotten. Many years later, Durham County came together to refurbish it into a low-cost senior living house.

Snow Day!!!

Snow Picture

After a very long time, Durham has finally gotten a lot of snow!  However, the snow is a little powdery in the shade, but it is really good packing snow in the sun! The snow started around 1:00 PM, so it was really cool to watch the snow fall on the ground and accumulate. I measured how much we got, and my house got around 4 inches! That’s crazy! On Sunday, you couldn’t see the grass at all! That gave it a very cool effect to look at, and it looked very pretty. My dogs outside got very cold when my family and I played with them, and we had to take them in because they were shivering. Our entire pond and pool were frozen, so I tried to stand on it. But I heard a bunch of cracking under my feet, and I was out of there. My dad and I tried to make a snowman, but the snow wasn’t good enough for that, sadly. I also made a fun dessert, which I called a “Cherry Coke Delight,” where a big cup is filled with snow, and pour some cherry Coke into it. It definitely was a 10/10 drink right there.

Overall, the snow was very fun! I love having snow, and it just makes my mood better, seeing the ground in an opposite color than it usually is!

Thanks for reading!!!!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Are you tired of long and boring chapter books? Well, I got the PERFECT book for you! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an awesome, short, and sweet book that you will love!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is about a kid named Charlie who lives in a poor family. But he got the chance to tour the most famous chocolate factory by the world famous chocolatier Willy Wonka, by finding a golden ticket in one of his chocolate bars! Charlie and the other three winners of a golden ticket get to tour the factory with Willy Wonka himself! (Plus all of his Oompa Loompas.) They get to see how his magical chocolate factory works, and crazy, wacky, never-before-seen items made by Mr. Willy Wonka! And some may or may not turn you into a giant floating blueberry. What could go wrong!

I really enjoyed this book because I never liked really long chapter books, so Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a perfect length in my opinion! I also really liked how fun this book was, because of how absurd some of Willy Wonka’s inventions were and how they impacted the story. This book is also very fun to read, because of how crazy some of Willy Wonka’s inventions are! Like, flying elevators, teleporting chocolate, a CHOCOLATE WATERFALL?! All this makes me think that this book gets a good ol’ 10/10 stars! PLEASE consider this book to be the next one you read! It’s awesometastic! FANTABULOUS even! IF you’ve read this book before, or you just read it, tell me how you thought of it in the comments!
